IslandWood News

IslandWood is looking forward to recognizing an outstanding K-12 educator with

The Patsy Collins Award
For
Excellence in Education, Environment and Community
IslandWood has been given the privilege of annually recognizing and honoring one outstanding K-12 educator who has made an exceptional contribution to the community in which he/she lives and the students he/she has taught.  The award, titled The Patsy Collins Award for Excellence in Education, Environment and Community, is given to a Puget Sound educator who is dedicated to creating powerful learning experiences for students by connecting students' education to the real world, while inspiring them towards community and environmental stewardship.  These are the foundations on which IslandWood's educational philosophies are formed and what Patsy Collins believed in as a citizen leader in our region.
Please see the attached file for details associated with this award and necessary nomination forms.  We ask that you pass this along to colleagues, educators or anyone you think would be interested in nominating a deserving educator for this award.

Library Corner

ABC's...Next time you're in the library, look up.  We have a new, bright and beautiful alphabet line painted by some of our very own Bennett artists: Kaylyn Le,
Harrison Egler, Mari Rosenwald, Andie Rosenwald, Angel Le, Jacqueline Lu, Zachary Adelson, Tom Bentsen, Nick Bentsen, and Ren Watanabe.  Now all Bennett students will be able to figure out the order of the alphabet.

GRC...Congratulations to all 49 GRC participants. On  February 24, these 4th and 5th graders worked cooperatively within their teams of 7 to answer questions from 10 novels.  They did great.  The winning team (by one question) was "The Banana Splits": Nimi Boazi, Gloria Hsieh, Emily Sun, Caleb Fore, Amanda Melhoff, Delaney Douglas, Mitchell House.  This team will go on to represent Bennett at the Bellevue East Challenge on March 4.

Database... TumbleBooks.... Bennett now has a subscription to Tumblebooks, a database of animated stories that highlights the text as the story is told. Stories are available in English, Spanish, and French. You can access this database through our library catalog or directly at
www.tumblebooks.com.  The catch is you need the Username and Password.  Email me to get them.  I can also send you passwords for CultureGrams, eLibrary, netTrekker and World Book Online.
