Volunteer Opportunities
We would like to thank all those who have served the Bennett Community and welcome those who are interested in serving in the coming year. Below is a list of committees along with a brief explanation of a volunteer’s role. Please take a moment to consider volunteering next year and indicate your interests by checking the applicable boxes:
(Volunteers assuming the leadership role of those marked with an asterisk (*) are considered PTSA Board members and are encouraged to attend PTSA Board Meetings held periodically throughout the school year.)
Art Enrichment Committee & Reflections Program*(Facilitate Reflections program & other art enrichment. Next Year’s Reflections Theme: “I Can Make A Difference”)
Assemblies (Review and recommend 2-3 PTSA sponsored assemblies for the school year)
Auction* No auction in 2007-2008. Committee will plan for auction in 2008-9
Bookfair (Scholastic Bookfair - a virtual bookstore at Bennett, typically held in the fall)
BSF Liaison (Represent Bennett at Bellevue Schools Foundation see http://www.bsfdn.org)
Directory (Compile the contact information of Bennett families and distribute in the fall)
Environmental Enhancement (Ex. works with the service club to plant annuals in classroom pots)
Field Day (Organize and implement end of year celebration held on the last full day of school)
Grants (File grant applications on behalf of Bennett staff for various programs/field trips)
Friday Flyer: Editor & distribution team (Distribution team meets every Friday morning)
Health & Safety* (Organize parent volunteers for morning drop off safety, ensures emergency kits are up to date and supplied to each classroom, etc.)
Hospitality (Provides refreshments for PTSA general meetings – reimbursable through PTSA)
Legislative Liaison* (Communicates & represents Bennett regarding PTSA legislative issues)
Library volunteers (Assist Jean Bolivar in the library with student check out and re-shelving)
Membership* (PTSA membership tracking and reporting to council/state)
Multicultural Committee* (Organizes after school multicultural events including Multicultural potluck)
Reader Board (updates the reader board monthly)

Room Parent Coordinator* (Facilitates communication and support for all Room Parents)
Science Week Committee*(plans & implements Science Week activities – typically occurs in the spring)
Scholarships, Awards & Sponsorship Program Liaison (Gather nominations & facilitate awards)
Social Concerns Committee* (Facilitate coat drive, food drive, etc.)
Social Events Committee* (Plan and implement social events for Bennett students and families, i.e. Skate King Events, sock hops, movie nights in the gym, spring social, etc.)
Staff Appreciation* (Coordinate monthly staff luncheons with Room Parents, coordinate efforts for Staff Appreciation week in May)
Student Photos (Advertise picture day & assist vendor, occurs in the fall)
Sweatshirts (Advertise, sell & distribute school sweatshirts)
Math Enrichment Committee*
Math Olympiad Team(Jumpstart a team of 4th/5th graders at Bennett next year - for more info got to www.moems.org/)
Walk-A-Thon* (Bennett’s biggest fundraiser and loads of fun - September 28, 2007)
Website (Manage/update Bennett’s website:www.bennettelementary.org)
Welcome Event (Organize the welcome event held on the first day of school – Sept. 4, 2007)
Yearbook (Photograph school events, prepare page layouts for vendor & advertise/distribute yearbooks in the spring)
