April 25-29

Parent volunteers needed!

No science experience is needed. Sign up on the sheet outside the Bennett office, or send mail to Ana Laura Torres Zamora

Student Science Workshops

Lunch recess science workshops will be scheduled to help students select, plan, and research their science projects. Workshops are planned in the library during the lunch recess.

Student Science Projects

K-5 students will conduct their own scientific inquiry and prepare a summary presentation and project display for Young Scientist Week. 4th and 5th graders are required to participate this year as a BSD science curriculum enrichment activity. For frequently asked questions on student science projects click here.

Extra help to get started can be found on the Bennett Science Handbook and the science project worksheet. Project display boards (tri-folds) will be sold by the Service Club students for $3 each. Sale dates will be announced.

Bring completed project displays to school. Unless your child’s teacher has special instructions, bring your project directly to the table labeled with the teacher’s name in the hallway or library.

Egg Drop Contest

K-5 students will apply their science understanding and ideas to design an egg “lander” at the Bennett Egg Drop Contest held during Young Scientist Week.  The Bellevue Fire Department will be on hand to launch the entries from their ladder truck. Is engineering really this much fun?!! For more information and egg drop rules click here.

Family Science Night

K-5 students share in science learning with their families (and have loads of fun!). Families will view student project displays and learn through more than 25 fun hands-on science, math, and technology activities. These activities are built and tested by parent volunteers and local science, engineering, and technology businesses and organizations.

In-Class Science Activities

K-4 students will learn through special hands-on activities to enhance the district science curriculum at their grade level. These activities are brought to each classroom during Young Scientist Week to allow students to participate in small groups.

Science Field Trips

4th and 5th grade students will head out on exciting science expeditions with their class.  Look for more information later in the year.

Parent Volunteers are Needed!

We need your help, which can range from as little as an hour during any of the activities, to planning the events. Sign up sheets for day-of-event will be posted soon. If you would like to assist in the planning, help with the student workshops, or have an idea or contact you’d like to share, please contact the science week coordinators. No science experience is needed.

Sign up on the sheet outside the Bennett office, or send mail to Ana Laura Torres Zamora
